Lead Service Line Replacement and Drinking Water Resilience Grant for Illinois Communities

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is pleased to announce a competitive grant opportunity specifically for public water systems and municipalities within Illinois, part of a national initiative to modernize and secure clean drinking water infrastructure. This program aims to accelerate critical upgrades, with a primary focus on the identification and replacement of lead service lines (LSLs) across the state. Proposals should detail comprehensive plans for LSL inventory, replacement, and associated public outreach, ensuring equitable access to safe drinking water, particularly in historically underserved and low-income communities. Additionally, the program supports projects aimed at enhancing drinking water treatment processes to address emerging contaminants, such as per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), and improving overall system resilience against climate change impacts, including flood mitigation and drought preparedness.
